Dear V...

When Leo and I come to Paris, we come to relax, enjoy being surrounded by the beautiful French language, to learn more about French culture, and to appreciate the architectural beauty, the art and the history of your beautiful capital. We have always stayed very close to the "center", and when we weren't able to find the apartment that we had our eye one (one from previous years), and were recommended to stay in your apartment in Montparnasse, we said "pourquoi pas?". Little did we know that we were in for the treat of our lives. As you suggested, I started reading right away, and as much as I could about the artists and writers that walked the streets of Montparnasse, frequented the cafés, and lived here. Then we arrived. Right away, as I got to know this lovely and very non-touristy area, I could feel the presence of those great people from the past. Every morning we strolled along the history-rich and beautiful streets in the "quartier"... rue de la Grande Chaumière, rue du Fleurus, rue de Notre-Dame-des-Champs, and more. We fell in love ! We are so happy that what we had hoped for in the beginning did not work out, because in the end, it did work out... in the best way possible. As for the apartment, we also fell in love ! We loved the charm and character of the building and the apartment, the fact that you provided us with all that we needed, and the tranquility. We loved popping out of the door each morning, going across to the boulangerie (the lady in there is so nice), going to the Edgar Quinet markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and catching ALL of the buses that you recommended, and riding them all over the city. (What a great way to see Paris) What a great apartment, and what a great location. We could not have asked for more.

And V..., the best part of all is YOU. You were so warm, welcoming, and accommodating, and we LOVE your sense of humor. I will always remember the first tour of the neighborhood, walking by all of the shops and you giving them labels. My favorite was: "Très Bon, Très Cher !". We said it every time we walked by this shop, and this made us smile. I also can't thank you enough for the second tour you gave me, introducing me to some of the hidden gems of this corner of Montparnasse. I will never forget this, and because of what you shared with me, Montparnasse will always own a piece of our hearts. Finally, what you did for us when we were in a bit of a bind last week, turning a scary situation into a wonderful one... there are no words. Our stay here was magical. We love your family- your mom, and we even got to meet P... ! (He is very much like his mom !). Leo met M..., bit I never did. HE deserves the biggest thanks of all, so please please tell him that we thank him from the bottom of our hearts. Merci M...... you are the BEST.

To anyone who stays in this apartment, we have a few recommendations.

 1. Have lunch at that Art Macaron on 129 Montparnasse Blvd. V... PLEASE thank your mom for this recommendation. It was by far the BEST BEST lunch we had in Paris. Sadly, we didn't try until our last day... that is sad, because we loved this experience.

 2. Eat in the bistrot of Le Closerie des Lilas. We had a wonderful meal here, and enjoyed the piano bar so much. Our server showed us where Hemingway's favorite seat at the bar was, and we sat there. It was lively and fun in this bistrot, and the food was just delicious. We know that Hemingway's ghost (very friendly, no worries!) was right there by our sides !

 3. Go to the TOP of the Montparnasse tower at night. DO NOT MISS THIS !!! The view is unforgettable.

 4. Do as V... advised- read up on this area while you arâ here. If you don't have a book, maybe V... will lend you one. Try to go, every day, down the street to le Jardin du Luxembourg, probably one of the most gorgeous parks in the world, and read a few chapters.

 5. If you speak French, go see a play at le Petit Théâtre Montparnasse. This is right down the street, and such a charming and comfortable theatre. I enjoyed the experience, and the streets were lively with theatre-goers, even at 11 at night. This was one of the highlights of my stay here.

Voila ! Our stay in L'appartement La Coupole was wonderful and memorable, and we will take home with us such unforgettable memories. Merci infiniment, V....

 With thanks and warmest regards,

 Linda
