First of all, I would like to thank everyone on this forum and others for all the help I received in planning my trip. And plan I did!! For six months I felt like I was living in Paris in my mind, and I was almost afraid that the reality would be a let down. I walked the streets of our Paris neighborhood with Google earth and looked at many restaurants and shops that I wanted to check out. I worried for nothing. Even though I found a lot of things familiar because of all the research it was still very, very exciting to see it in person. Our apartment could not have been better. Paris Best Lodging has an excellent reputation on the web, and it lived up to its hype.
We landed in Paris on a Wed. am. and while the Paris airport was not the most user friendly (we had a hard time finding the way out) we finally got a cab and a rather hair-raising ride to our apartment. This cost 50E, including tip and was well worth it for us because I wanted our arrival to be as stress free as possible. My husband has some physical problems, making walking difficult, so I tried to minimize any extra steps wherever possible. After checking in and meeting with our landlord we ventured out to the Franprix for some basic supplies, ie. bread and wine. Later, while hubby rested I took the first of many long walks to get acquainted with our neighborhood. It has so many cafes and restaurants, all with large outdoor areas that it is mind boggling. I walked to the Luxemburg gardens which were very impressive.
On day two we had timed tickets for the Eiffel tower, I thought we would get that out of the way first. We dont like waiting on line, but this is something you have to do. The ticket saved us time in one line, but it was still pretty long for the security line and the elevator lines, both up and down. After the tower we decided to go to Gare Nord because we had hoped to take a side trip to Bruge. For a lot of reasons, this didnt work out so we ended our afternoon at a nice sidewalk cafe (this was to become a daily pattern) where we struck up a conversation with a German gentleman and had a nice pick-me-up. The following morning I set out alone at about 8:30 to walk around the area. I would continue this habit every day and I really covered a lot of territory. From our central location I walked to the Place Concorde, the Tuilleries, Place de Voges and the Carnavelet, the Market at Bon Marche (fantastic), the Sorbonne and Cluny areas, the Islands of Cite and St. Louis (I didnt think it was possble to get off these islands and not know it, but I managed to do it twice) , up and down the Boulevards of St Germain and St. Michel. I then went into either the Paul or Kayser bakeries for fresh baked goods for our breakfast. On Friday we headed out to the Delacroix museum where we bought our six day museum passes. This was a small but blissfully quiet place with a lovely garden, and also some lovely jewelry for sale. These were copies of jewels worn by ladies in some of the paintings. I got my anniversary gift in this place, a really pretty pair of earrings. We then picked up some sandwiches along the way and headed to the tip of the Cite island and the park just beyond the Pont Neuf.. We had our picnic there watching the boats go by. After lunch we made our first foray into the Louvre. Nothing could prepare me for the size of this place!! The museum pass was wonderful here and we spent a few hours and didnt even cover one wing. We had the most amazing time at the Apartment of the Luxembourg Gardens. Billy and I were there for a long time and really felt at home. The location was fantastic and the view from the balcony is incredible. I will not give too much away, but I will say that the pictures on parisbestlodge's site do not do justice to the actual view of the horizon! We are already planning our return trip and there is no other place that we would want to stay!

This appartment is beautiful, with lots of original features, like locks and windows, but also modern where you'd like it to be modern great shower with two different shower head options! When you stay for a week it's also nice to be able to use the washing machine. You can see the Luxembourg Gardens and some of the Eiffel Tower from the balcony. We watched it lit up every evening and it's definitely something that our daughter who was in paris for the first time will nit forget:) The Gardens are so lovely, & you can get a crepe from a little stall near the pond, great playground for kids...Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Amazing position, you can walk to lots of places from there or take the frequent train, the station right outside. Easy connection to Gare du Nord. Because you are kind of in the middle of Paris, the journey is different eveery day. The bedroom is quite small but very comfortable and sheets very crisp clean. It faces the courtyard so very quiet and we got good sleep there. You can put all your stuff in a little walk in storage room anyway. We had an amazing time, this place really had all we needed and it felt like living in Paris, rather than staying in a featureless hotel. Would definitely come again. The owner was very helpful and didn't mind coming on a sunday to set up our wifi. We throught the rental terms were great, paying in cash on arrival as you are not risking anything by paying a lot upfront to someone you don't know. We only had to pay a small deposit which was promptly refunded after we left.

I stayed in the Luxembourg Gardens apartment with my two daughters. I was very worried that something would go wrong, but the owner calmed every concern. He responded almost immediately to my frequent emails. As has been said before, he is an excellent landlord. Before booking with Paris Best Lodge, I checked out other Paris apartment websites, but none made me feel secure. PBL's excellent communication and method of conducting business were exactly what I needed to embark on such a big trip. The flat was clean, well-stocked and nicely furnished. The amenities were all in prime working order. The washing machine was so good, we're thinking of getting the same one for our home. The pictures on the website are very accurate. What they can't quite show is just how spectacular the balcony view is. It's a real treat! Our month in Paris was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip. It was so magical, however, I can't help thinking I'd like to do it again. If I get the chance, I would book again through Paris Best Lodge.
