Le Marais is the oldest corner of central Paris and is one of the best-loved districts. Crumbling and neglected Andre Malraux began regeneration in the early sixties. Its tiny streets still maintain their old-world charm but have been invaded by smart boutiques, restaurants and art galleries. Very centrally located, this area is full of smaller and charming neighborhoods with many museums and places of interest including views of the spiritual and architectural centerpiece of Paris Notre-Dame.

This gorgeous apartment is located in rue du Bourg-Tibourg, the best street of the area, in a very elegant building of the XVIIIth century, near the most famous tea room of paris, Mariage Freres.

I could not possibly have been more satisfied than I was with my three week stay in Studio Marais during May 2007 – indeed I was so satisfied that I have already booked the apartment for may of 2008!
The landlord, Thierry, is young, intelligent, energetic and clearly dedicated to ensuring his guests an outstanding experience.
The apartment consists of one large room with a kitchenette along one wall, and a separate bathroom with stall shower, washing machine, sink and toilet, the bathroom being ventilated by its own window. The apartment is totally cut off from street noise because it is on a courtyard, but its three large windows and the size of that courtyard means that it is not in the least bit dark.
The walls of the apartment are decorated with modern prints, and the simple, natural finish furniture goes well with the apartment’s look, which is contemporary but not aggressively so. The furniture consists of three chairs, a table, a queen size (or maybe king size) bid, a bedside table, a table for the computer, and a large closet.
Equipment includes a TV with built in DVD player (though I suspect U.S. DVD’s wouldn’t play because of the different French TV format and because of different DVD “regional coding”, though I can’t be certain of this as I brought no DVD’s with me), a stereo and a computer. The computer has a U.S. keyboard, the importance of which will be appreciated by anyone who has gone half mad trying to use a French keyboard due to its several pairs of transposed letters (a and q for example) and the fact that on a French keyboard the numerals are upper and the symbols lower case. And of course there is all the difference in the world between being able to check your e-mail from your temporary home than from having to go out to a commercial internet access establishment. With his typical spirit of helpfulness, Thierry at my request set the computer so that with a couple of clicks I could get straight to Yahoo mail.
The kitchen has a two-burner electric stove, microwave oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker. It is amply equipped with crockery and cutlery. For those who wish to do their own cooking, there is a large self-service supermarket literally in the same building, so those who don’t know French can supply their needs with ease.
A sole word of caution: the apartment is on the 4th floor (U.S. numbering; 3rd floor UK/Continental numbering). but has no elevator. If a person thinks he would have difficulty with that many steps, he should inquire of Thierry about apartments with elevators or lower down.
The neighborhood literally couldn’t be more ideal. The apartment is in the Marais, one of Paris’s oldest neighborhoods, with eighteenth century buildings and narrow streets. At the same time, in recent years it has become “trendy” so it is full of shops and places to eat. For instance the street the apartment is on begins with a leafy little square surrounded by cafés and restaurants.
Only three blocks from the apartment is an entrance to the Hôtel de Ville métro stop which is one Line 1, which runs west to the Louvre, Place de la Concorde, Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe and La Défense, and east to the Place de la Bastille (with the new opera house) and the Gare de Lyon train station. The next stop on Line 1 to the west of Hôtel de Ville is Châtelet, where an additional three métro lines meet, as well as the RER commuter line to Charles de Gaulle airport.
You can be at the banks of the Seine in about five minutes on foot from the apartment, and at the foot of the Boulevard Saint Michel in fifteen. So Right Bank, Left Bank – you’ve got it all within reach while being surrounded with a charming neighborhood.
I’ll conclude where I started: I can give no stronger testimonial of my satisfaction with ParisBestLodge, Thierry, or the Studio Marais than the fact that I have booked the latter for all of May 2008.

Comments: Georgia and I felt right at home in the middle of Paris at the Studio le Marais, a charming, comfortable, clean hide-away during our 12 days in Paris. Just four or five blocks from the Seine and about the same distance to the Metro at the Hotel de Ville, this cozy apartment is a gateway to the city. Yet it's on a seculded street in neighborhood of restaurants, cafes, wine bars, bakeries, a handy grocery store, etc. We were within walking distance of Notre Dame Cathedral, several major museums and a number of Metro stations. The apartment was everyting Thierry said it would be at the rate he quoted, with no unpleasant surprises. He's a nice man you can trust. We'll stay at Studio le Marais during our next trip to Paris. Thierry… What can I say…. our two week vacation in Paris was absolutely fantastic.  Studio Marais was fabulous and the perfect location for everything. When we return to Paris (probably in a few years), we will definitely stay at one of your apartments again… Thank you!! Would you believe that Randy took over 2,000 pictures and has many aspirations and ideas for a Paris series of paintings. We saw many sites and galleries, and of course I shopped… perfumes, wine, clothes but they wouldn’t let us bring any great cheeses back with us…. And that is sad for us… The US as backwards and has outlawed bringing in some of the great French cheeses…One thing I truly remembered is how much I loved living in Europe. Maybe one day… In a perfect world, I would live in Europe for 6 months and in Portland for 6 months… I even picked up a bit of French and of course had the opportunity to use my German… If you ever find yourself in the Northwest, I hope you will give us a call.

We have just returned from a glorious month in Paris staying in Studio le Marais on Bourg-Tibourg. The location is perfect - a lovely, lively neighborhood with a fabulous boulangerie on the corner that makes the best croissants we've ever tasted, an inexpensive market next door, an epicerie that makes fresh squeezed orange juice, a very nice square at the end of the street, the elegant and wonderful Mariage Freres Salon du The practically next door...and on and on. The apartment is, at the most, five minutes from the Seine, Ile St. Louis, & Notre Dame - perfect for those late evening strolls amidst the beauty of the City of Light.
The apartment itself is delightfully cozy. Two of us were very comfortable there for the month and never felt cramped. The tenants were friendly, and one delightful woman even has a cat, Sigmund, helping to ease our longings for our own pets. We enjoyed conversations with her almost every day and, we believe, made a friend.
Thierry was very nice, wholly accommodating and went out of his way to make everything perfect for us. We very much look forward to returning and would HIGHLY recommend this apartment, Thierry, and Paris Best Lodge to anyone.

Many thanks for a great stay in STUDIO MARAIS. We're in love with the area, the apartment and the friendly, casual nature of dealing with Thierry & Paris Best Lodge. The stay has turned out to be one of our best vacations. We couldn't recommend either the apartment or Thierry enough.
