Musée d'Orsay
Cézanne-Pissaro 1865-1885
Musée d'Orsay : 01.40.49.48.14. Until 28 may 2006
The Museum of Orsay commemorates
centennial of dead of Paul Cézanne by organizing artistic
reunion with that buddy who shared twenty years of complicity :
Pissaro. Since 1872, the two painters maintain a true friendship
which will be expressed in their work since they will paint coast at
coast, identical subjects, during several years. On the ways of
Auvers-on-Oise, the two accomplices rove, rest in shoulder-belt, and
work this simple nature by exchanging comments and tricks. 10
years older, Pissaro drives the relation and models definitively the
attitude with the work of the young Cézanne. This exhibition
gets back to the sources of this dialogue of artists and presents to us
70 portraits, dead natures and painted landscapes with "four hands",
two glances, the same time by the two friends. It is the result
of a meticulous investigation in few famous museums : Moma, Los
Angeles County Museum and of course Orsay. This comparative
analysis is presented simply, with a great purity. The similar
subjects are skillfully juxtaposed in only one glance. One
surprises there astonishing differences in interpretation for identical
visions.
