Young
designer rebel in her time, Charlotte Perriand is one of the important
creative women of first half of the XXth century. Drawing its
jewels, marrying out of scarlet velvet, definitively not resigned to
preserving classicism's, she contacts Le Corbusier at 24 years old,
freshly graduated from Decorative Arts. Le Corbusier quickly
detects the talent of the young woman for her use of new materials and
its ideas upon interior design : Headlight of car as a luminary, table
equipped with rubber, wall cupboard out of mirror. In the
Thirties, she collaborates directly in the creation of the famous
chairs and signed armchairs Corbusier/Jeanneret. Friend of
Fernand Léger, she leaves several years to Japan and refines her
vision of volumes minimalists. Its last great initiative goes up
at the end of the years 1960, when she is involved directly in the
construction of the winter sports resort of the Arcs. She draws
the whole of interior installations of the new dwellings. She
dies at 96 in 1999. This excellent exhibition reveals us the
essential of a life of inspirations, at the source of our contemporary
projects.
