Jeu de Paume :

Retrospective of an
artist exclusive
in her
own way at the Musée du Jeu de Paume: Cindy Sherman. This
American
woman, 52 years old, has handled her talent to photograph
herself
for more than thirty years, carrying out a marathon of evolutionary
self-portraits completely renewed with the liking of its inspirations.
This solitary photographer, without assistants nor small hands,
observes herself in her new yorker apartment and composes several
series sets of themes around the broad topics of civilization. Under
the expression of her phantasms, her body becomes clay. She makes it
up, deforms it, caricatures it, referred to the cinema, with painting,
carves the light, indecency, derision. A series of mannequins
suggesting the love act becomes more obscene than true real bodies. The
Musée du Jeu de Paume gathers today its first stereotypes in
black and white, declining her direction of the exhibitionism and the
transvestite, other photographs sometimes morbid, sometimes smiling.
The woman remains simple until today, even if her photographs can
reach several hundreds of thousands of dollars in the auction sales,
even if many museums already acquired some fragments of the work of
that which is and remains one of most immense contemporary American
artist photographer.
