The
Gallery Vivienne is one of the most charming galleries
of Paris. It connects the National Library to the Place des Victoires. Luxuriously
decorated in a neo-classic style, it is a place of exquisite walk as
much by its preserved old charm which by the shops of quality you can
find there. Jean-Paul Gautier settled there in 1986, not far from
a merchant of ancient prints. A succulent tea room "A priori Tea"
offers a quite practical covered terrace the days of rain. A bar
with wine makes it possible to taste the largest vintages with glass on
a bar of mahogany tree, an old bookshop gathers quantity of old books
on Paris. Merchants of watches, of artificial flowers and art
galleries can be found here in greatest diversity. Built in 1823
on plans of François Jean Delannoy, the gallery reminds a Roman
atmosphere, almost "pompéi", with its paved ground of flowered
mosaics and its low-reliefs of goddesses decorating its high parts. An
elegant canopy bathes it natural light. The former head of the
police force named Vidocq, lived with number 13, the site of the large
staircase.
