This splendid
exhaustive exhibition is the initiatory homage to the most famous
musical instruments : the guitar. More than one hundred of instruments
representative of all the times and all the styles of music will be
aligned in the Villette to tell us the music of the Conquistadors, that
one of Paganini or that one of Jimmi Hendrix. The scenography of the
exhibition inserts the visitor in a giant case, preceded by a
monumental rosette which should be crossed. The guitars are exposed on
bases or under windows of jewelry according to a route suggested by
the organizers. The course starts with Liberty space. One discovers the
prehistory of the guitar there, his first appearances from the
revolution to the middle of XIXth century. The hybrid and whimsical
forms recall us that the instrument is not standardized yet. Colony
space opens the cradle to us, Spain, the Latin America, the guitar of
Torres, this Spanish violin maker who gave him his final and known
appearance so far. Epopée space goes up towards the United
States, when the guitar cries the blues and invests the American
country. Emancipation space electrifies the guitar, makes it howl,
squeak, in the repertories new of post-war period, rock'n'roll, pop,
folk. Among the stars of the exhibition, let us enhance the guitars of
the famous duet Presti-Lagoya, the vihuela of mano Castilian of the
beginning of XVIth century, the guitar of Berlioz and Paganini, the
strato of Hendrix recovered by Zappa.
