From the Metro, walk down Boulevard Saint-Michel away from the seine.  Another of the early strongholds, though more traditional and with an older crowd (40s-50s). First class New Orleans and Big band performers. Monday-Saturday 9pm-1h10am. Closed August. obligatory first drink 15/25 euros, subsequent drink 6/10 euros.

Le Caveau de la Huchette : 5, rue de la Huchette, 5ème. Metro : Saint-Michel.
From boulevard Saint-Michel, make a right onto rue de la Huchette. Come prepared to listen, watch, and dance the jitterbug, swing and jive in this extremely popular, if somewhat touristy, club, bebop dance lessons at 9h30am. Call Widely varied age group. Crowded on weekends. Cover  Sunday-Thursday 10.50 euros, Friday-saturday 13 euros. students 9 euros during the week. dance school 8euros. Drinks 5.50-8.50 euros. open daily 9h30pm-2h30am, Friday until 3h30 am. Saturday until 4 am. AmEX/MC/V.

Aux Trois Mailletz : 56, rue Galande. Metro : Saint-Michel.
From the Metro, walk along the seine on the Quai saint-Michel, make a right on rue du Petit Pont  and a left on rue Galande. What you'd expect a cool jazz club to look like. The basement houses a crowded cafe featuring world music and jazz vocals. The upper floor is packed with a strange  mix of well-dressed students and well-dressed forty-somethings. 12-20-18.30 euros admission to club on weekends : admission to bar is free. Grog 9 euros at bar , cocktails 12.50 euros at bar. Bar open daily 5pm-dawn. cave 10pm-dawn.
