Le
Pont des
Arts
The most romantic bridge
in Paris
The
wooden footbridge across from the Institut, appropriately
called the
Pont des Arts, is celebrated by
poets and artists for its delicate
ironwork, beautiful views of the Seine, and spiritual locus at the
heart of France's prestigious Academy of Arts and Letters. Built as a
toll bridge in 1803, it
was the first bridge to be made of iron.
On the day it opened, 65 000 parisians paid to walk across it. Today,
it
is less crowded, absolutely free, and perfect for a picnic dinner, for
viewing
the sunset, and for a little romancing. The Pont des Arts will lead you
directly
to the Louvre from St-Germain des Prés.
Across the Pont des Arts, you can visit
Studio
Saint-Germain or Studio
Mazarine.
