Here
a spectacular musical resurrection, since it restitutes a mythical
operetta which made run any Paris many hundreds of times in the
Fifties. At this time, the style was contemporary and concerned all the
generations. What happen one half-century later, in a time or the rap
style has trashed the traditional values. Jean-Luc Choplin, the
new director of Châtelet, takes a risk by programming this score
born in 1951, and suddenly so retro that it appears completely Kitsch.
But, it also joins again with the great tradition of this prestigious
theater, reserved for the light music during decades. In a way, our
present, in search of vacuum-cleaned old-fashioned things, gives him
reason, from Bollywood to karaoke of teenagers, the old women charts
come again easily. Nevertheless, the current version is degreased
of these rubbles of post-war period. The scenario was
concentrated on the action and the dialogues were reduced. The
orchestration neglected coppers if at the time snuffed to insert in the
orchestra, a guitar, a piano, a battery jazzy. The setting in scene
gave up the yelling costumes and western for a scenography much more
current signed Emilio Sagi, specialist in the Spanish zarzuela. The
acknowledged goal, to avoid micro waving a heated Mariano, to cook a
true Parisian event, dans l'air du temps.
