This is one of the most significant retrospectives dedicated to William
Klein, presented in Paris in the Beaubourg Center, since a score of
years. American Klein, artist of gigantism as others artists work
on the the minimalism, is concerned with all the modes of creation :
Photographer, painter, designer, graphic designer, director. This
creative swirl observes its time since about fifty years then
reinterprets it in photographic, cinematographic or simply pictorial
quiverings spontaneous. Its absolute signature remains its
immense board-contact (3 X 4 m) painted then inordinately increased
with models posing overall, Paris, Tokyo or New York, inside the street
or upon the gray roofs. This visual biographer of Muhammad Ali
was registered in the Studio of Fernand Leger in 1948. He turned
quickly to photography while taking as a starting point the research of
Bauhaus, those of Moholy-Nagy in particular. Thereafter, it will
survey the large cities of the world to bring for us some instantaneous
sharp and acid.
